Explorations

Golden Gate Weavers is the oldest weaving guild in CA (1938) and recently we have been doing public exhibits. This summer we have an exhibit of weaving at the Nature Center in Tilden Park. They asked us to weave with items from the children’s farm in Tilden or things that were otherwise re-purposed or recycled. It is a pleasure to walk around the center and enjoy the work of my talented guildmembers.

Seeing my own work on display was a pleasure that I didn’t expect. These are my baskets.

Three coiled baskets; some with locally gathered pine needles and grass and some of the vegetable dyes are local.

Today I sat outside of the center with two simple looms and invited people who walked by to weave. Some just wanted to talk about weaving and it was usually the children, not the parents who were brave enough to weave, but I had about a dozen visitors. It is always a thrill to see the pleasure in the eyes of a four year old who has woven a few lines or the intense concentration of nine year old boys who just work with amazing focus. It was a good day.
